Advise on Motard setup?

Discussion in 'Racing, Motorsports, and Track Days' at netrider.net.au started by Arran, Jun 18, 2006.

  1. Hey all,

    First post.

Can anyone give me any advise/direction re; setting up an RM-Z 450 for Motard racing? I'm doing some research for my Bro who has just taken up the sport having raced Pro 250 Moto-X for a number of years. I myself am strictly Road these days. :(

Where would I look for RM-Z compatible hubs to lace up a new set of Motard wheels and what is the best rim spec.? I've been looking around online and it looks like 17 X 3.75" front and 17 X 4.5" rear is the go but the Motards I have seen look to have a wider rear at least.

Also, is going to a 320mm front rotor and adding an adaptor for the stock single piston floating front caliper sufficient or is it really advisable to get a 6 pot dual retracting pad anchor for the front?

What else is recommended when converting a stock MX bike?

  2. No-one here knows anything about Motards? :(
  3. They're a fairly specialised area - particularly when it comes to racing.

I'm pretty sure I heard something about Mitch (Sir Skuffy on the forum) racing supermotards over in America, why not PM him and ask? Oh, and tell him "ya mum" for me.
  4. Still pretty specialised and haven't penetrated the local market like they were expected to. Dunno why because they are awesome commuter/inner city rides.
Wheels and brakes you have a handle on, I think the other major changes are to ride height (lower) and suspension, stiffer springs with shocks valved to control them.
Have you tried www.vsmr.net?, Victorian Street Motard Riders.
