650 Classic Exhaust on a Custom

Discussion in 'Cruisers' started by tonner, Oct 9, 2011.

  1. Anyone know if the exhausts are interchanable between a 650 custom and a 650 classic?

  2. cant see why not they are both the same motor and i guess same frame only difference being the fenders etc etc..
i would be looking at the same yr as what you have already tho
  3. Might have different brackets, so pay attention there.
  4. They are exactly the same and all model years fit.
I just put a set from a 2009 custom on my 2000 classic and they bolted straight up.
They both had the same part number and the whole job took less than 10 minutes.
  5. Thought that would be the case, did you have to replace the exhaust gaskets or did the pipes breakaway clean.
  6. They came away clean. And i don't think they had been removed in the 10 years since the bike was made.
Didn't have to replace the gasket and there are no leaks.
I didn't replace the front pipe, only the rear and the 2 mufflers.
The front pipe has a slip fit to the rear muffler but the rear pipe is welded to them.
I replaced them because the baffles had coroded and collapsed inside blocking the mufflers. Probably because the bike has sat around most of its life with very little use.
