2t oil in a 4t motor

Discussion in 'Maintenance and Servicing' started by dassa, Sep 30, 2012.

  1. Hi All,

I have just done an oil and filter change on my GS2500. Unfirtunatly I used 2t oil instead of 4t oil. do I need to imediatly change the oil again or will it be ok?

Thanks in advance for you advice

  2. wow thats a interesting one. theres no way that would have the correct SAE rating,
plus the is no way you will sleep until you change it ....
  3. Yes, change it before you ride it. Obviously 2 stroke oil is still oil and lubricates a two stroke OK, but they usually have open cage roller bearing big ends and the like, it's not going to be a good thing in your 4 stroke with slipper shell big ends and a valve train.
  4. Also if its a wet clutch, you might have issues the first couple rides?
Would recommend changing, riding 50km and changing again... just to be sure you flushed it all out.
  5. thanks guys
  6. 2t engine oil isnt designed to be chopped up in a gearbox..
