I bought the CX back in mid 2009 as a rough looking stocker, it cost around $400 and I had to go to Toowoomba (from Sydney) to pick it up. Here's what it looked like when I got it
The plan was always to buld a cafe bike from it, I loved the Vtwin, it was a cheap bike but I knew it had the potential to look and sound great as well as be a bit of fun. Back then the CX was not as popular as it is now to cut and cafe so I like to think this was one of the first to get the cafe treatment
The first incarnation saw it built up over about 6 months and then registered, it ran around like the belwo pic but without the paint for about 12 more months, then it got painted and looked like this.
I rode it around like the above for a while and then did some more mods. Went to clipons and made a few other changes.
This was a short stage as I'd decided there were too many CX cafes out there and I wanted to step it up, I'd always wanted a more racey look so found a Laverda fairing off of a race bike and put that on. At the same time making a new front guard and making some rearsets for it. I also added a RFID ignition and ditched the ignition switch altogether.
Next I made a carbon fibre inner rear guard and added some performance to the engine, I did a bit of headwork and bolted on some Mikuni VM34's to replace the stock carbs. This added around 10-15hp to the engine and she'll lift the front wheel now. Also retrimmed the seat in leather.
This still wasn't enough, the brakes were letting it down. I looked at adding CB900 brakes as they were bigger but they were still 30 years old. Instead I bought this.

Still more to go with some more carbon fibre stuff in the works and another engine being built shortly with the aim of some more HP and fun
