Historic (everything) VIC

  1. For some unknown reason the heater which wasn't working when I arrived late last night, decided to kick in at about 3am and warm the room up around 6am. :cautious: Bit late after I spent most the night wearing all my moto gear in bed!! :grumpy:

Managed to catch a couple of hrs of zzz before going for a walk round town seeing the sun rise.... Beechworth is a pretty little town claiming everything is historic: the pubs, the gardens, the lolly shop, the mechanic's garage, the accom and I bet you even the wooden post an old dog was lifting its leg on to pee. But it's lovely in its full autumn color none the less.

Feeling a bit stiff and not feeling limber enough to take on tight twisties first up, I made a dash up to Albury to see another of my BIG items... The worlds biggest rolling pin!! :cat::snaphappy:

After a nice hour ride to limber & warm up from excited star jumps at the rolling pin, I took on the short & curlies (good road surface, but no shoulders & v narrow lane width with rock walls) of the Chiltern-Wodonga rd before turning off to the Chiltern-Mt Pilot Nat Park. Arrived at the Woolshed Falls, but no gold was found :lock:

Next was visiting the historically famous BIG Ned Kelly at Glenrowan (Ned kelly's stand). It didn't disappoint :D Each shop seemed to be competing to see who could cram in the most Ned Kelly's everything, cause everywhere you looked there were there!

Wanting to take on lesser known roads I literally did a lap of Lake Mokoan (wetlands) behind the Glenrowan wine regions. Although the maps / Google / Tom Tom states this is gravel, it is not. It is open graded asphalt, wide road and all sealed! :) Although relatively straigh, it is very pretty swing the massive lake/wetlands roll by. Although a word of caution: the turtle crossing signs... There are there for a reason! I found this guy lying on the road... I don't blame him, trying to warm up in the sun! :wacky:

Onwards to Bellana, Euroa for fuel & down to Merton for some more short section of twisties. Took a little detour to explore The Cathedral (mountain) & some afternoon delight through the tall eucalyptus tree forest twists to arrive at Healesville!! :angelic::joyful:

Found a sunny quieter spot to have an arvo break & make stock of this last mini adventure. How many sights, how many corners, how many places to make you say 'wow'....:love:

Sad that it was soon to be over but glad to be back to the home base for a warm bed tonight. (y)

chilliman64chilliman64 today's ride was a relatively 'short' one. I hope the Google link works - https://www.google.com.au/maps/dir/...5218ce6f0!2m2!1d145.5170063!2d-37.6538286!3e0

Generally I don't keep a record of exact kms since I do a lot of U turns and get lost a few times and just do loops of places doubling back to take photos etc. So it's not an accurate way to get the kms. I just roughly get an idea with google maps on kms and then add it up on how many times I fill up at the servo a day ;-)
