Day 9 (Thurs): Cairns to Daintree Village.172km
Now today is really where my Cape York experience begins.
Now travelling with Steve (also from Wagga Wagga), except him being in his 4WD.
(It's another story how this team formed for this trip..... beer was involved)
A late departure from Cairns, we headed into the hills for Karanda & Barron Gorge.
After Karanda, I headed back down onto the 'Capt Cook Hwy'; however, it was a slow trip (60-80kph in a 100 zone)
all the way to the Port Douglas turn off.
The road continued to snake along the coastline, with ocean on the right and rainforest to the left. Through Mossman and the surrounding cane fields until Daintree Village was reached.
Camping behind the town shop/museum, overlooking the Daintree river, with things that want to eat you living there.
A meal an a couple of beers at the local, listening to the B/S from some Hardly riders also camping near us.
Day 10 (Fri): Daintree Village to Lion's Den Hotel via the Bloomfield Track. 156km.
I headed for the Daintree river ferry (about 15km away), arriving to meet two German travellers on their way to Cape Tribulation on board a DL650 (V-Strom), after a chat while waiting to board the ferry, I crossed over, then waited for Steve to arrive.
The ride, through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation was awesome. Then it was onto the Bloomfield track..... which was just another dirt road (only about 30km was dirt), from a lookout, I spotted a Croc laying on the sand by a river.
Wujal Wujal. Wujal Wujal falls (also called, Bloomfield falls)
Then a short ride to the 'Lions Den Hotel'
Great campground the rear, fantastic Pizzas and staff (backpackers) were easy on the eye....
