Baby bike back! - Planning for a Gold Coast - Melbourne - Tasmania & back epic ride...

  1. Aloha!

After nearly an excruciating year without a bike, it’s finally here.

    Baby bike back.

    It’s time.

It’s time to pull my finger out and twist that throttle…for about 8,000kms….

A hair brained idea has begun – Riding from the Gold Coast to Melbourne, around Tasmania, possible to Adelaide and then back to the Gold Coast via Melb again.

And I have 3 weeks to plan and get my beastie ready for a mid-March departure.

Bordering on dumb or insane. :wacky: Not sure... we’ll see what I decide along the way. But I’m using this trip as a huge learning curve from blogging, vid-blogging, forums, riding styles, how to pack actual stuff you’ll need, touring survival, find my groove, have some decent conversations with myself inside my helmet, meet some awesome peeps along the way & make worthwhile memories I can tell once I’m old and not able to ride.

To make the trip more bearable I’ve kitted out my beastie with a few extras. Please welcome my single cylinder KTM Duke 390, that sounds (climbs & passes traffic) like a lawn mower on steroids!! (Crowd goes wild I’m sure). I would like to stick a sticker on it stating “my other bike is a MV Dragster 800” since it’s the only other bike in the current market for 4 foot 11 rider that’s got traffic passing power…but alas… haven’t got a sugar daddy to afford that kinda inbetween your legs bling…. :D

So alas, without further procrastination – what have I got on this powerful lawn mower?

    · Ventura Rack which will have a top box,

    · Dirtsack Speedbags (currently in the post),

    · Spring, forks and side stand lowered,

    · Touring screen,

    · iPhone 6 ram mount and waterproof case,

    · 12V socket,

    · Geeeeeeeeel seat (best $$ investment spent!)

    · Handguards to keep bug splatters off your hands,

    · Headlight and radiator protector,

    · Crashbars,

    · Tank protector.

Lets hope it’s enough for the ride J Next blogs I’ll aim to write about gear to take heading into the mountains, and some of the challenges and things to consider when planning a trip solo. As I’m finding out – there’s a tone load more to think about than what jacket you’ll take on a ride to match your mood!!

    Till then, Namaste :)
